Fashion a Tender Heart

by Omar Azam

Ancient people sold:

Sound mind and healthy body.

We pay money today:

Computer brains on plastic dolls.

And the wise men they claim:

Intellect can set you free.

Is that how far we came?

Measuring minds in mental miles...

Staring at the cove;

Green dolphin, blue horizon.

And the woman in chains;

Mochalicious, sugar-free.

And the firemen, they claim:

Smoke alarms can save my soul.

In this wide open frame:

You can say yes,

You can say no.

Fashion a tender heart, I say.

Breathe a spirit strong, I say.

Start with a smile and laugh, I say.

Outrageously hysterical,

my mind is not a vehicle,

roaring to the sea…
